Narrow down college choices to 5 or 6
favorites. Don’t do the
buckshot approach; some schools (esp. Tier 1) consult with one another
on where else their applicants have applied. Shows no real desire for that
particular school. Three categories:
-
Safety Schools—Excellent to 100% chance
student will get in.
-
Tier 2 Schools—student’s record makes him/her
competitive, but not a shoo-in
-
Reach Schools—Student has as good a chance as
anyone but school accepts 10% or fewer of pool of applicants (1300 SAT
verbal/math minimum).
-
Visit those schools if possible. Student really must have some
sense of the “fit” or “vibe.”
If not possible, call for a video or do the virtual
tour.
-

November.
