Sophomore Year

  • CAS hours (20 in each category) must be documented by April 1.  Required for the student to move on to Jr/Sr years.
  • Continue to keep a strong GPA.
  • Will take first “skinny” classes.
  • Should take SAT Prep class.  It definitely raises their scores.  And it raises talented kids’ scores more because they grasp the patterns of the questions and recognize when to apply the advice the teacher gives them.
  • Will take Advanced Placement test (World History) in May
  • AP Psychology class is available.  Test in May.
  • Must have 3.0 GPA by end of third nine weeks to move on to IB junior and senior years.
  • Must choose sixth subject for following year. (Chemistry, Physics, Visual Arts, Music Solo Performance, Social and Cultural Anthropology).
  • Must choose math level (Studies, Methods, HL)
  • Must choose science for HL study (bio or chem.)
  • Definitely should be active in one or two clubs/teams.  Active means chairing committees, making things happen, participating so that the sponsor knows who you are.
  • Should continue to compete in any way possible in subject of choice.
  • Take PSAT (all sophomores do—state of FL pays)
