Physics 1

Chapters 22 and 23 Notes

Note there is no homework assignment for this unit but there are study guides and practice on Ohm's Law and circuits. See links below. Also, check out the link to the reference sheet for the exam.

Charge – Individual electrons carry a negative charge.

Static Electricity – (Charge) + + - - -

- The separation of a charge + + + - - - - -

- Like charges repel + + - - -

(Charge is measured in Coulombs)

Potential Difference – of charge (Voltage)

Current – The flow of electrical charge per unit of time

Electrical Circuit – A closed loop around which charged particles flow.

Conductor – A material that allows the flow of charge.

Insulator – A material that doesn’t allow the flow of charge.

Ammeter – A device used to measure electrical current. ( I ) Amps

Voltmeter – A device used to measure potential difference. (Voltage) (V) Volts

Ohmmeter – A device used to measure electrical resistance. ( R ) ohms W
